Export of Pink Himalayan Salt

Pink Himalayan salt is the new trend these days. Now, you can find it in grocery and other specialty food stores. Because of its charming hue, it has also made a link with home items like table lamps. It is not only said to purify the air but also adds aesthetic value to the overall view.

The Himalayan salt is mined in Pakistan’s Punjab region, near the Himalayan foothills. The origins of this mineral salt go back to hundreds of millions of years when the salt was placed in an ancient ocean. However, until recent years, the Himalayan salt market was small. Now, due to its global demand and advantages, exports have advanced to 400,000 tons of salt per annum.

The public has made many health claims regarding the best Himalayan pink salt over the passing years. Some say salt lamps help to purify the air. Others say it can detoxify the body of unwanted heavy minerals. Moreover, there is also a group that has even implied it can increase libido. However, all these claims are not backed up by science yet.

With time, there have been many assumptions made about Himalayan pink salt, some of which are correct, but some are mere theories.

This article elaborates the uses of the best Himalayan pink salt and the exports of the salt industry, which gave pure mineral salt exporters many great opportunities.

History of Himalayan Pink Salt

Historical tale tracks the discovery of the Himalayan salt deposits back to the army of Alexander the Great. However, the first records of mining this mineral are from the Janjua people in the 1200s. The Himalayan pink salt is mainly mined at the Khewra Salt Mine in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is situated in the foothills of the Salt Range hill system in the Punjab province of the Pakistan Indo-Gangetic Plain. Primarily, it is exported in bulk and treated in other countries for the consumer market.

This gave the best salt suppliers from Pakistan to make their mark in the salt industry and provide the best Himalayan pink salt around the globe.

Nutrition Value

Being a mineral, the Himalayan pink salt is entirely devoid of calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and sugar. However, supply your body with the required amount of sodium, considering it is purely sodium mineral.  There are traces of other minerals in Himalayan salt, which are liable for the pink tint in the salt mineral. These traces mainly are:

  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
Usage of the Himalayan Pink Salt

Himalayan salt is used to season food and flavor it as per your liking. Due to marketing costs mainly, pink Himalayan salt is up to 20 times more expensive than regular table salt or sea salt. The impurities that present its peculiar pink hue and its unprocessed nature have given rise to the belief that it is healthier than ordinary table salt. However, there is no scientific basis for such claimed health benefits, although many have seen striking results by switching to the Himalayan pink salt. In the US, the Food and Drug Administration advised a manufacturer of dietary supplements to discontinue marketing the products containing the pink salt and using unproven claims of health benefits. These health benefits may work for some and may not work for many, and they are yet to be proved scientifically. A few benefits of Himalayan pink salt have been confirmed by science but not all.

When it comes to usage, slabs of salt are being used as serving dishes, baking stones, grills, and tequila shot glasses. Small amounts of the salt shift to the food or drink in such uses are possible, and it may alter its flavor profile.

The Himalayan pink salt is most used to make “salt lamps” that reflect a pinkish or orangish hue. It is manufactured by placing a light source or a bulb within the hollowed-out interior of a Himalayan salt block. The manufacturers claim that using these lamps results in the release of ions that benefit health. Aromatherapy is widespread, and it does have promising results, but using a salt lamp for it is a claim not supported by science yet. Likewise, other scientifically unsupported claims hold the use of Himalayan salt to line the spa walls and salt-inhalation spa treatments. They can be used to add aesthetic value to the interior but claiming that they are beneficial for health is not correct.

The origin of Himalayan pink salt has its tale, however, it has given a lot of benefits to a large sum of people and great opportunities to all the pure mineral salt exporters, like Bhandari Foods.
